Research Questions for MOOCs

Love this summary by Mark Guzdial. He points out three major research questions that need to be investigated with respect to MOOCs before we allow them to “take over” universities:

  1. What will be the impact of MOOCs on diversity in computing?
  2. Are MOOC discussions doing any good?
  3. How much learning is going on in MOOCs?

What I’m most interested in looking into are questions 1 and 3. 3 should be straightforward enough to measure, if we just make use of good pre- and post-assessments. Measuring the impact on diversity may be harder, and I think interviewing students here could be really useful (although very time consuming).
